The COIVD pandemic of 2019 is still with us and has presented a new challenge. Operation “warp speed” has produced several vaccines that are very effective in combating this disease. The health expert felt that we would be able to get back to normal. After 70% of our adults were vaccinated, to their disappointment, we have not reached the percentage of vaccination to return to normalcy. The problem in past is due to vaccine-hesitancy, and with the refusal of some to get the vaccine, the coronavirus has mutated into the “delta” coronavirus.
What does that mean? It means that the original N-coronavirus has changed some its physical characteristics. This “changed” coronavirus is called “delta”. In addition to the original N-coronavirus, we are now faced with the “delta coronavirus”, which spreads more easily and appears more deadly than the original.
There are several options available to defend yourself against this disease. Some of these methods are more effective than others. The vaccine is by far the preferred and most effective method of prevention against both forms of COVID. When coupled with the CDC guidelines of wearing a mask, social distancing, hand washing, and limiting your group exposure to 10 or less, your chance of contracting COVID is diminished even further.
If vaccination is not an option for you, then consider a) wearing a mask during routine activities and a double mask if you’re in an environment where the risk of transmission is high, b) follow very strict CDC guidelines for social distancing and hand sanitation, c) or simply quarantine yourself or severely limit your contact with anyone outside of your immediate family and make sure that they limit their exposure when they travel outside of the home.
What are we doing at CCT? Although many churches are holding in-person services, we have not opened the doors for full in-person worship opportunities.
I feel a heavy sense of responsibility for the safety and well-being of each member of the church. The executive board and I decided that the best way to protect our congregants’ health is to remain closed until the Center for Disease Control issue new guidelines. The zoom media platform and occasional visits from parishioners to our church services with enforced CDC guidelines allow for wonderful worship opportunities.
Please stay encouraged and stay safe.
